Tree Service in Streetsboro, OH

Built on 100-Acre Lots

Tree Service in Streetsboro starts with the way the land was divided. Titus Street bought the area in 1798, and it was surveyed in 1822 into 100-acre lots. It stayed mostly farmland until about 1970, while the population jumped from roughly 1,100 in 1950 to nearly 8,000 by 1970. The village incorporated in 1968 and became a city in 1971. Today Streetsboro has 17,260 residents across about 23.5 square miles of Portage County, and much of the tree work we see here traces back to those old farm boundaries.

Fence rows and woodlots

When farms become subdivisions, the old fence rows and woodlots often stay, sitting at the back of house lots. Those lines were rarely planted on purpose. They fill with wild cherry, ash, box elder, maple and elm, and they've had decades to grow without any pruning. With emerald ash borer now confirmed in every Ohio county, the ash in those rows have largely died, and they're the trees we most often take down in Streetsboro.

Space for clearing

Streetsboro still has plenty of land being built on or improved. Common projects include clearing trees for a new garage or pole barn, removing a row of trees to widen a yard, or opening a lot for a driveway. On these jobs we handle the trees, the brush and the stumps, and we can leave wood for firewood or chips for trails if you want them.

Typical Streetsboro tree work

  • Removal of dead ash and storm-damaged trees from back-lot tree lines
  • Selective thinning to keep a screen while removing hazards
  • Trimming yard trees over roofs and driveways
  • Lot and brush clearing for outbuildings and additions
  • Stump grinding, including multiple stumps left from past clearing

Storms across open country

Portage County was hit hard in the August 2023 storm. At the peak, 35% of FirstEnergy customers in the county were without power, and state Route 44 was closed by downed lines. A gust of 80 mph was measured southwest of Kent. Large, open lots let wind build speed before it reaches a tree line, which is why the trees on the edges of old fields often take the most damage.

A transportation town

The Old Portage Trail, once used by the Seneca to travel between Lake Erie and the Ohio River basin, crosses the city's southwest corner. Today Route 14 and the Ohio Turnpike run through town; the turnpike opened in 1955, and Streetsboro's interchange was at first Portage County's only one. Trees along busy road frontage are worth checking for dead limbs over the right-of-way.

Spotted lanternfly and tree-of-heaven

Tree-of-heaven, an invasive tree that sprouts readily along field edges, roadsides and disturbed ground, is the spotted lanternfly's favorite host. OSU Extension reported lanternflies in neighboring Summit County in 2025. If you have tree-of-heaven along a Streetsboro fence line, removing it is a sensible step; it resprouts from roots, so plan on following up.

Streetsboro Questions

Can you clear part of an old tree line but leave the rest?

Yes. We can remove the dead and leaning trees, or clear one section for a building or view, and leave the healthy trees as a screen.

Do you grind several old stumps at once?

Yes, and it's more economical to do them in one visit. Count them and give rough sizes when you call, and we can include them all in the estimate.

Can you leave the logs for firewood?

Yes. We can cut to stove length and stack where you'd like. Just tell us at the estimate so the price reflects less hauling.

How do I recognize tree-of-heaven?

It has long compound leaves with many leaflets, smooth grayish bark, and a strong, unpleasant smell when the leaves or stems are crushed. It spreads fast along edges. We can confirm the identification during an estimate visit.
