Tree Care in the Valley
Tree Service in Peninsula takes place in one of the most wooded settings in Summit County. The village of about 536 people sits along the Cuyahoga River in the middle of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, at an elevation of just 748 feet, far below the plateau towns around it. Settled in 1818 and platted by Herman Bronson in 1837, Peninsula was a canal boat stop with mills, quarries and boat yards. Today it's a historic village surrounded by federal parkland, and nearly every property backs onto trees.
Historic homes, careful hands
The Peninsula Village Historic District includes more than 20 places listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Greek Revival is the dominant style, and the 1824 Bronson House is built of local sandstone. Bronson Memorial Church dates to 1835. Around buildings like these, tree work has to be precise. We rope down limbs rather than dropping them, protect stone and slate, and keep heavy equipment off old foundations and soft ground.
Valley floor conditions
Living on the valley floor means river flats, steep side slopes and soils that stay wet. Trees on slopes lean toward the light and downhill; trees near the river may have roots undercut by high water. When we remove them, we often rig pieces uphill and leave stumps and root systems in place on slopes and banks to hold the soil.
The 2024 tornado nearby
On August 6, 2024, an EF1 tornado with peak winds near 104 mph tracked through the Boston and Richfield area just north of the village. The national park reported numerous trees down, and Riverview Road was closed between Boston Mills Road and Stine Road for debris. Park visitors were asked to report downed or hazardous trees on park land to the park at 440-546-5945. For private property in and around Peninsula, call us at (330) 325-4776.
What Peninsula owners ask about
- Removing dead or leaning trees threatening homes on valley slopes
- Pruning large old trees around historic houses and outbuildings
- Storm cleanup of hangers and broken tops
- Clearing trees from driveways and lanes after wind events
- Stump grinding in yards, and leaving stumps in place on slopes
Park boundaries
Because the village is surrounded by national park land, lot lines often meet federal property. We work only on trees on your land. If a hazard tree is on park property, it's the park's to deal with, and we'll help you figure out which side of the line a tree stands on before any work is planned.
Wires in the woods
Ohio Edison lists Peninsula on its tree-trimming program, which runs on a four-year cycle. In a village this wooded, branches regularly reach lines between trimming visits. If anything is touching a primary line, call the utility first.

Peninsula Questions
A dead tree on the park side of my line could hit my house. What can I do?
Trees on national park land are the park's responsibility. Contact Cuyahoga Valley National Park about it. We can confirm whether the tree is on your property or theirs before you decide anything.
Can you remove trees on a steep slope behind my house?
Yes. We climb and cut in sections, lower pieces carefully, and usually leave the stump and roots in place to keep the slope from eroding.
My house is in the historic district. Is tree work handled differently?
We take extra care around historic structures, roping limbs down and protecting roofs and stonework. If you're unsure whether any village approval applies to work near the street, check with the village before we schedule.
Do you work in Boston Township and Boston Heights too?
Yes. We work throughout the valley around Peninsula, including Boston Township and Boston Heights, on private property outside the park boundary.
